Haiti

Some of you know that I (Nick) traveled to Haiti in May of 2006. It was a trip that changed my life and one that God used to change my view on this world. Unless you have been living under a rock located at the bottom of the ocean, then you know the devastation going on there right now. That devastation happened in the place that I spent a week building relationships with some amazing Haitians.

I have been praying for my friends in Haiti, as most of you have been...but I still have an uneasiness inside of me. How do I help? What do I do? If I go will I be helping or just in the way? What is better money or supplies? In a society of "right nowness" I want to help NOW. While not a bad thing, I wonder if it is my own self I want to help verses really helping those on the ground in Haiti.

I am writing this today to get this off of my chest, and to ask for your prayers as I seek God in how to help. Communication is slow coming out of Haiti and it is frustrating me. Pray that God would show me how to use the resources He has given me and my church to be most effective in being the Hands and Feet of Christ to the Haitian people.

If you haven't donated and want to, here are 2 great organizations that have people already working in Haiti. LCMS World Relief and Human Care (http://www.lcms.org/help/) and Beyond Borders- the organization that I went through on my trip to Haiti in 2006. (http://www.beyondborders.net/index.php)

I will also keep you all updated on when and if I have other ways to donate. I hope that in the next few weeks, God will show me how to use my love for Haiti for HIM.

Christ's Peace,
nick

Fun with Natalie

Natalie is busy busy busy. WE are having so much fun watching her have fun. Here are some pics and a hilarious video from the last couple of days. The stoller and baby she received for her birthday have been a source of great fun, Only Natalie can make accessorizing with underwear cute: This girl loves to eat! This was an extra messy night. I totally stripped her down to her diaper. Her diaper was spaghetti sauce red by the time she was finished. (Fun side note: I lifted her by the arm pits after she was finished, set her on the floor, and took off her diaper. About 10 seconds later she peed all over the kitchen floor!) Finally, here is Natalie in action. Nick and I laugh every time we watch it. We think she looks like a derranged 80 year old on speed pushing her walker! :)

Blessings on your week!

Christmas

We are back in the swing of things after a wonderful Christmas vacation and break from the real world. They are always too short, but we try to enjoy every second. As aforementioned, we traveled to Texas to visit the Lubke's. It turned out to be quite the adventure with a blizzard on Christmas Eve that kept us snowed in for 3 days! All Christmas services were canceled, but since we had our own personal pastor (thanks Dad!) and the church is right next door, we were able to have our own personal Christmas Eve service. :)
We were blessed to be able to see Gran and PawPaw Orville, my sister Courtney and one of her friends, and also Granna Sue and PawPaw Ray. A special thanks to them for bringing up our new car! They journeyed through some treacherous roads to get there. Nick drove our car - 2009 Malibu back to Florida, and Candace and Natalie flew back. We almost didn't get back since they ended up canceling our flight from Wichita Falls to Dallas, but thanks to mom and dad who quickly drove us to Dallas so we could make our connecting flight and get home.
Natalie enjoyed her Christmas as well. She loved undecorating the tree and learned how to eat of a plate like a big girl. And a big girl she is indeed. Nick and I just can't believe how much she is growing and changing. She was a little overwhelmed with all the opening of presents, so we had to leave a few for later in the day. There were just too many things going on and too much paper and boxes everywhere! :)She did love the big ball that Santa gave her, though, and the orange in her stocking. While in Texas, teeth #s 13 and 14 broke through. She also got to experience her first snow. I'm not sure she knew what to think about it - especially the getting bundled up part. "What in the world are my parents doing putting all these things on me?!" :)
Despite some of the chaotic moments, our trip was fabulous and we relished in no work and mom's delicious food! Now back to cooking all of my own meals and slaving away at work. Thanks again, mom and dad, for everything. We really enjoyed our time together!
